The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Ted Clarke, 2014 Standardbred Builder inductee.
Dr. Clarke was a veterinarian, a businessman, a family man, and an innovator who made a tremendous contribution to Canadian Horse racing.
A true gentleman, soft spoken and incredibly humble about his achievements, Ted Clarke was an integral part of the team behind the development and opening of Grand River Raceway, and worked tirelessly for the betterment of the industry, especially horsemen and women. Although he held the title of General Manager at Grand River, his hands on/pitch in attitude was always present, with no task too small for him to take on, whether it was driving the tractor or helping in the paddock. Ted retired from Grand River Raceway in the fall of 2017.
We extend our thoughts and condolences to Ted’s family, friends and colleagues. His warm, yet slightly shy smile, and humility will be missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
At Dr. Clarke’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral home visitation or service.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Lighthouse Restaurant at Grand River Raceway: 7445 Wellington County Rd. 21, Elora.
